| Plate Tournament a Big Success | ||||
| Newry Tennis Club decided to run a plate competition for all categories in the Closed Tournament this year. This proved to be a big success and gave juniors and beginners a further opportunity to experience competition in a friendly environment. | ||||
| In the Men’s Singles Plate John Richmond had to defeat his son David and also Jamie Campbell to reach the final against Dave Furniss where he got a taste of his own medicine and was defeated in 2 sets by the B&D League veteran. | ||||
| Dave Furniss popped his head up again in the final of the Men’s Doubles Plate where he was teamed with brave newcomer Brian McArdle. They faced David Sloan and Gary Smith who were unfortunately hampered by an injury to David’s hand but still managed to p | ||||

| Maureen Grant also made it to the final of the Ladies Doubles Plate being partnered by one of the best Doubles players in the club –Joan Smith. On the night however the pairing of Roisin Connell and Pauline Meehan proved the winning combination. | ||||
| Pauline Meehan is also due to play against her regular sparring partner and friend Brona Donegan in the finals of the Ladies Plate –this match has yet to be played. | ||||
