The winter league is in progress and you can keep up to date with the players scores and league positions using the links on the left.
The rules and format of the competition are as follows:
This is an inaugural league involving 56 members; we hope that it will prove popular and we can make it an ongoing event. We can make changes to the format etc. in the future as we see fit. We would ask players to individually help in making it a success by being as cooperative and positive as possible
We are hoping if successful to continue the league in the New Year as possibly play 7 weeks of doubles.
The matches are scheduled for evenings at 7pm. (note, for the first 2 weeks only on Tuesday we have only 2 courts available until 9pm).
It is the captain’s responsibility to contact each other and confirm the players that will be playing. Hopefully there will be a good turn out; the captains may schedule some of the games later in the evening. This will save people having to wait for a court. Captains must confirm numbers 48 hours prior to the game. We would stress the individual responsibility to contact the captain and confirm availability or otherwise; please make life easier for the captain by having the courtesy of contacting him/ her rather than having to be chased for a reply!
If a player is not available he/ she should let the captain know ASAP. The captain in turn will inform the other captain and the opponent affected. PLEASE BE CLEAR; if a number 1 player, for example, cannot play there is no number 1 game. Players are not promoted; e.g. no other games are affected. The other team are awarded the match and the 1 point (see below).
Both team captains should confirm the score to Eddie Smith (077746497274) who will correlate results, tables, etc. One point is scored for each individual game and 3 points for a team win. (Draws are unlikely as there 7 members in a team; however, in the event a draw scores 1.5 each).
The new courts are playable unless the weather is atrocious and we would encourage games to proceed. Captains can jointly re-schedule games to the weekend. In the event of seriously poor weather only games may be re-scheduled to another weekend. One captain cannot unilaterally insist on a game being postponed. Leg 1 of the league finishes on Sunday 23.12.07 at 5pm and a winner declared, with no games allowed after that date. If games are not played both teams will be awarded 3.5 points only.
Hopefully, with everyone’s enthusiasm and effort the league will run smoothly. In the event of an unforeseen problem, the organisers retain the right to amend, change, and delete teams as they see appropriate to ensure that the league continues successfully. This will be done as fairly as possible but it may not be possible to please everyone! For example, we may have to substitute a player who resigns at an early stage.
We appreciate that there are probably 56 views on how this league should be run and 112 suggestions on how things could be improved. We have done our best; please work to make it a success and lets discuss how it could be improved after the seven weeks
Finally, all captains have agreed that if both players of a match agree, the match may be played earlier than the scheduled time, but not later.
